Day 69: The first obsession from the shelves I'll share is, I think, my first obsession: Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom Of The Opera". I've always been into musical theatre. My favourite movie of all time is Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man"'starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. I know the entire thing by heart, word for word. Even still, as much as I adored and continue to adore that show, it never captured me the way The Phantom did. I was pretty well consumed by The Phantom. I wore black, I had a pendant of the mask that I wore daily, I had family who were connected to the production company "Livent" and who would hook me up with one-of-a-kind souvenirs (like the photo I got autographed, pictured here), I'd listen to the soundtrack on endless repeat (and drive my family nuts), and I learned to play the big showstoppers on the piano. I'd pound out the title theme like nobody's business. Anyway, part of the reason I adored this show (aside from the thrilling/romantic story) was the principle singer: Colm Wilkinson. He was almost an obsession all unto himself. His voice, to me, is the epitome of perfection. I could listen to him sing the phone book and be completely entranced. In 2003 I fulfilled what I thought to be an impossible dream, and met the man. With a couple of dear (and very patient) friends in tow, I attended my first Colm concert and nearly had heart palpitations from the excitement. He was so kind and gracious, allowing us to take a photo with him even though he was practically mobbed by the crowd. That moment was one I will never forget as long as I live, and it proved to me that, really, anything is possible. Today's happy is remembering my love for that wonderful show, the fantastic music, the incredible performer and that beautiful evening. Lots of happy tonight. #100happydays #colmwilkinson #closeyoureyesletyourspiritstarttosoar
